Introduction

In this document, we will go through the most common (And some less common) problems for people when they set up DT Centrepiece 4. Please note that this document only applies to DT Centrepiece 4.5, with FCKEditor enabled.

Important: DT Centrepiece 4 requires that cookies and JavaScript are both enabled and working for all pages to function properly.

Database support

DT Centrepiece 4 natively supports the following database types:

·         Microsoft Access 2000

·         Microsoft Access 2002-2003

·         Microsoft SQL Server 2005

Although DT Centrepiece may work in other databases, we do not provide support for them.

Automatic installation

Using a Microsoft Access database

Make a new folder in c:\inetpub\ and call it “databases”. Copy “Database.mdb” from the zip file into c:\inetpub\databases\.

If you are using Windows XP or older, in the explorer window, open Tools/Options. Click the “View” tab. Scroll down the list until you see “Use Simple File Sharing”. Make sure that this is unchecked. Close the Folder Options window.

Right-click on “Database.mdb” and click “Properties”. Open the “Security” tab.

For Windows XP and earlier

Click “Add”. Type “IUSR_[Your Server Name Goes Here]” into the text box and click “OK”. Tick both read and write boxes. Click “OK” to close the dialog box.

Do the same for c:\inetpub\wwwroot\c4\data\connection\default.asp, except this time, tick the Full Control box.

For Windows Vista

Click “Edit”. Click “Add”. Type “IUSR” into the text box and click “OK”. Tick both read and write boxes. Click “OK”, and click “OK” again to close both dialog boxes.

Do the same for c:\inetpub\wwwroot\c4\data\connection\default.asp, except this time, tick the Full Control box.

Installation

Inside the zip file that you downloaded, there will be a folder called “Application”. Make a new folder in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\, and call it “c4”. Extract the contents of the Application folder in the zip file into c:\inetpub\wwwroot\c4\.

To use the default settings and get DT Centrepiece 4 installed quickly, simply navigate to http://[Name of your web server goes here]/c4/ and the installation page will show up automatically.

During installation, be sure to read all of the text on each page, unless you have already read it before. If it wasn’t important, then it wouldn’t be in there!

Click “Next” to continue.

Select your database type. If you have not set up SQL server already, then select MS Access from the database type list. Type in c:\inetpub\databases\Database.mdb. Click “Connect”.

Read through the information on the page. It’s all very important.

Click “Fresh Installation”, or if you are upgrading, click on the version of DT Centrepiece 4 you are upgrading from.

If you are upgrading DT Centrepiece 4, type in the C4ID from the website you are upgrading.
Important: This is case sensitive.

If you are installing a new copy of DT Centrepiece 4, type in a new C4ID that is different to any other copies of DT Centrepiece on your server.

Click “Create Tables”.

Follow the instructions on the page, and then click the link at the bottom of the page.

If you are taken to a setup complete page, then installation was successful. Otherwise, you probably didn’t apply the correct permissions to data/connection/default.asp.

Categories, Pages, Content, Comments, and Site Information

For anyone who hasn’t used DT Centrepiece before, we’ll go through how the content management system works.

Categories

A “Category”, is the top-most piece of content you can have. Categories hold pages. Categories show in the navigation bar if the “Show in Navigation Bar” box is ticked on the add/edit category page.

Pages

A “Page” is below a Category, pages are the main part of DT Centrepiece 4. Pages hold your content, and comments. While most pages are in categories, you can put pages into no category, so they won’t show up in any categories. This is useful if you have a lot of pages, but don’t want to cram the categories full.

Content

CMS = Content Management System. Basically, content is what you put on your pages. From company information, to news, to pretty much anything you can think of. Each page is made up of content blocks.

Comments

Comments go on pages. Any user may post plain text comments if it’s enabled, if there are no rules preventing them from doing so. No HTML will be parsed/rendered for comments. If you are logged in with a user which has Website Administration privileges, you will be able to see the IP Address which each comment was posted from. Comments are great for a guestbook, or user feedback.

Sidebar Items

Sidebar items are shown on the side of each page. You can add content to them just like a content block. These are good if you want to show the same data over lots of pages.

Site Information

Site Information is not stored in a category, unlike pages. Also, Site Information can’t have multiple content blocks – only one. This is good for say, an “About Us” page, or a “Contact Us” page.

Adding Content

To add content, click the content link on the sidebar, and the content menu will expand. From here, you can add, edit, and delete content. If you have enabled FCKEditor, then you will have a rich text box. Otherwise, you will need to use plain HTML.

Linking pages

To link a page, just copy the URL of the website or DT Centrepiece 4 page you want the user to go to, and when you’re adding or editing content, select some text, click the link button  and paste the URL into the dialog box that comes up

When you click “OK” and “Save Changes”, you will see that the text you selected is now underlined, and when you click it, you are taken to the URL that you put into the dialog box.

FCKEditor

FCKEditor has the “Browse Server” function disabled for security reasons. For more information on FCKEditor, visit www.fckeditor.net.

Managing Your Website

To add edit and delete users, groups, rules, traffic information, and other general settings, click the manage link on the sidebar. The manage menu will expand. From here, you can tell DT Centrepiece 4 what users and groups can access what. The permissions tool is rather complicated, so we will only run through the basics of it.

Permissions

Click on the permissions link. Click Add Rule. You will now be on a page which looks something like this:

Please note: To use this page, your browser must support AJAX, and must have JavaScript enabled.

Select “Page” from the list. A list of pages will automatically show up like this:

Click “Next”. You will be taken to this page:

Select the data type from the list. Then, choose a user or group, or type in an IP Address to allow/deny. Choose allow/deny from the “Access” field. Click “Add Rule”. You will now be on this page:

This means that the rule was applied successfully, and is now active. To delete a rule, just click “Delete”.

Finish

When you have read through this document, you should be able to use DT Centrepiece 4 with ease. If you are still having trouble with something, you can send your questions to centrepiece@dt.net.nz.
